Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Websites can also keep small notes in your browser's own storage. This page lists what CSS Nexus (cssnexus.com) saves, what Google saves to show ads, and how you can control both. For how we handle personal information in general, see our Privacy Policy.
Cookies set by CSS Nexus
- cnx_student: keeps you signed in to the essay outline and précis evaluation after you verify your email. It holds a signed reference to your account, cannot be read by the website's scripts, and expires on its own (or when you sign out).
- That is the only cookie CSS Nexus sets itself. We do not use cookies to track you across other websites.
What we save in your browser
These notes stay on your device. They are not cookies and are not sent to us with every visit:
- Quiz progress: your answers on a quiz you have not submitted yet, so you can carry on if you leave the page.
- Your name and phone number for quizzes, so you don't have to type them again.
- English practice: which exercises you have passed, to unlock the next one.
- Night mode: whether you chose the dark or light look.
- Reviews: that you already reviewed a quiz, so the form is not shown again.
- Reading time on Dawn editorial pages, and a draft of a quiz you are making.
Google advertising cookies
- The website shows ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads, to limit how often you see the same ad, to measure ads and to prevent fraud.
- Google may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalised ads in Google's Ad Settings (adssettings.google.com), and learn more at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
- Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown.
Visit counts
We count page views to see which pages are useful. The count does not use cookies or identify you.
How to control cookies
- You can block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings. Clearing site data also removes saved quiz progress and your night mode choice.
- If you block the cnx_student cookie, you will not be able to stay signed in to the evaluation.
- Blocking Google's cookies does not stop ads; they just become less personalised.
