(a) Explain classification of surveying on the basis of its nature of field and the instruments used. (10) (b) Explain direct and indirect ranging with sketch. (10)
(a) Briefly explain the terms Local Attraction and Magnetic Declination. (10) (b) The following bearings were observed in a closed compass traverse, where local attraction was suspected: (10) Line AB: F.B 74°20', B.B 256°00' Line BC: F.B 107°20', B.B 286°20' Line CD: F.B 224°50', B.B 44°50' Line DA: F.B 306°40', B.B 126°00' At what stations do you suspect local attraction? Find the corrected fore and back bearings of the lines.
(a) What do you know about Ranging? Describe briefly the different kinds of Ranging. (10) (b) A base line LN was measured in two parts, LM and MN, of respective lengths 729.50 ft and 544.0 ft with a steel tape which was exactly 100 ft at 25°C and at a pull of 100 N. The temperature during the measurement of both parts was 35°C, whereas the applied pulls during measurement were 120 N and 130 N respectively. Find the correct length of the base line if the cross-sectional area of the tape was 0.49 sq. in, and the coefficient of expansion and the modulus of elasticity of the tape material were 0.0000035 per 1°C and 21 × 10³ N/sq. in respectively. (10)
(a) Differentiate the following: Latitude and Departure; Terrestrial Photogrammetry and Aerial Photogrammetry; Radius and degree of the curve. (10) (b) What do you know about Tacheometric surveying? Briefly describe the different systems of tacheometry. (10)
(a) What is Plane table surveying? (05) (b) From the given data, calculate the area enclosed by traverse ABCDE: (15) Station A: azimuth 126°55'17", length 647.25 ft Station B: azimuth 178°18'58", length 203.03 ft Station C: azimuth 15°31'54", length 720.35 ft Station D: azimuth 284°35'20", length 610.24 ft Station E: azimuth 206°09'42", length 285.13 ft
(a) What is a topographic map? How is it drawn? (05) (b) How is inverted level measured? What are its applications? (05) (c) What do you mean by degree of circular curve? (05) (d) Describe the methodology to lay out a circular curve. (05)
(a) Define vertical curve. (05) (b) What do you mean by super elevation? (05) (c) A grade g1 of +3% intersects a grade of −2.4% at a vertex whose station and elevation are 46+70 and 853.48 ft respectively. An equal tangent vertical curve of 600 ft has been selected to join the two tangents. Compute and tabulate the curve for stake out at full stations. (10)
(a) What are the types of aerial photograph? (05) (b) What do you mean by spatial data? (05) (c) Define dumpy level. How is it different from automatic level? (05) (d) What are the different types of tape corrections? (05)
