CSS MPT preparation guide
#cssnexusBy CSS Nexus · Updated 26 October 2026
The MCQ-based Preliminary Test (MPT) is the screening test every CSS candidate must pass before the written exam. It is a multiple-choice test, so speed and accuracy matter as much as knowledge.
Eligibility rules, age limits, fees and dates change from year to year, so always check the latest official notice from the FPSC before you apply.
What the MPT covers
Most of these overlap with the compulsory papers of the written exam, so MPT preparation is also preparation for CSS itself.
- English
- General Ability (basic mathematics and reasoning)
- Islamic Studies
- Pakistan Affairs
- Current Affairs
- Everyday Science
How to prepare
- Start with past MPT papers to learn the pattern and level.
- Revise topic by topic, then practise MCQs on each topic.
- Take full timed mock tests every week in the last two months.
- Keep a list of every MCQ you get wrong and revise it before the test.
- Do not ignore General Ability — regular practice makes it a scoring section.
