#cssnexusBy CSS Nexus · Updated 26 October 2026
The Provincial Management Service (PMS) exam of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission (KPPSC) recruits officers (BPS-17) for the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It has compulsory and optional written papers followed by an interview. KPPSC also holds a PMS exam for the in-service quota.
KP-PMS is not the same as Punjab PMS: it has separate Everyday Science and Current Affairs papers and no Urdu paper.
Eligibility rules, age limits, fees and dates change from year to year, so always check the latest official notice from the KPPSC before you apply.
Compulsory papers
These six compulsory papers appear in KPPSC’s official PMS question papers (each 100 marks, 3 hours):
- English Essay
- English (Précis and Composition)
- Everyday Science
- Current Affairs
- Pakistan Affairs
- Islamiyat
Optional subjects
Optional subjects range from economics, public administration, political science, history, law, international relations and the sciences to languages such as Pashto, Urdu, Arabic and Persian. Most have two papers (Paper-I and Paper-II). Check KPPSC’s current rules on how many optional subjects to take and the limits on combining them.
How to prepare
- Read KPPSC’s past PMS papers first — they are the clearest guide to the level and style.
- Prepare Everyday Science and Current Affairs as full papers, not as general knowledge.
- Follow Khyber Pakhtunkhwa affairs (merged districts, governance, economy, security, hydropower) as well as national and world issues.
- Practise English essay and précis every week, and write timed answers for every compulsory paper.
